How AWIP supporter gear is made

Every item in the AWIP supporter shop is produced using print-on-demand technology.
That means your item is created only after you place an order, rather than being mass-produced in advance.

Traditional apparel manufacturing often produces large quantities of clothing that never get sold. Much of this surplus ends up discounted, discarded, or destroyed.

Print-on-demand works differently. Each item is produced specifically for the supporter who orders it, helping to reduce unnecessary overproduction and textile waste.

This approach allows us to create supporter gear responsibly while ensuring that funds raised through the shop go directly toward supporting AWIP investigations.

Printed using water-based inks

Our garments are printed using advanced digital printing technology that uses water-based, vegan inks.

These inks:

are free from harmful chemicals
meet internationally recognised safety standards
are Oeko-Tex certified, meaning they are tested to ensure they are safe for human use

This printing process allows designs to be applied directly to garments without the heavy chemical treatments often associated with traditional screen printing.

Made closer to the supporter

AWIP supporter gear is produced through a global network of fulfilment centres. Wherever possible, items are printed close to the customer placing the order.

This helps reduce shipping distances and allows products to reach supporters more efficiently.

By producing items in multiple regions rather than a single central warehouse, the production process becomes more flexible and reduces unnecessary transportation.

Packaging and fulfilment

Items are carefully packaged and shipped once they are produced. Packaging materials vary depending on the product and fulfilment location, but efforts are continually made to reduce excess packaging and improve material efficiency.

Because products are made to order, they move directly from production to shipment without long-term warehousing.
